Juniper (Juniperus Communis) Fruit Oil
Juniper is type of conifer from the Cypress family. The essential oil is extracted by steam distillation. The berries are a spice used in a variety of dishes and is best known for its use in a spirit who’s name is a shortening of its Dutch name, genever (gin).
Juniper is also well know for its stimulating properties which has a beneficial effect on people suffering from poor circulation and aching muscles.
Juniper cream is particularly beneficial when massaged into muscles before sport and manual work to warm the muscles therefore reducing the risk of strains especially in cold weather. It is also good to use it after physical excursion to reduce cramping of the muscles. Because the cream works by stimulating the circulation, slight reddening of the skin is simply an effect of improved circulation. A massage should be applied to aching muscles, calves, thighs, shoulders, neck and back.
Juniper bath essence oil is ideal for using after extend physical excursion to relax the muscles. As it improves the circulation it helps reduce the lactic acid which has built up in the muscle.
